“It’s not a coronation, its a wedding.” Advice when buying flower girl dresses

January 25th, 2010 by Pegeen.com | No Comments | Filed in Infant dresses, Misc., Wedding TIPS

My favorite quote is on the wall, getting more soiled with each passing year.  Sometimes I use this quote for the mothers of our flower girl’s or mothers of the brides or sometimes to the bride herself. “It’s not a coronation, its a wedding.”

Think of it.
Its your wedding and the flower girl’s mom is taking over your wedding.  OR
The bride (also known as your sister in-law to be) is out of control.       OR
Your mother has gone ga-ga over the plans and you are about to lose it.

Repeat the following message:
“It’s not a coronation, its a wedding.”  And, if you don’t see the humor in that statement, call me.

Just friendly advice from a flower girl dress designer.

Communion Dresses for Plus Size Girls

January 21st, 2010 by Pegeen.com | No Comments | Filed in Communion Dresses

Although we do many dress styles for all shapes, I am frequently asked about flower girl dresses for Plus Size Children, and especially Plus Size First Communion Dresses.

Each dress we make for a plus size child is individually hand cut according to their specific measurements so any style will look good on the child because it is made for them.  I frequently get a call from a parent who said they tried on (for example) a size 18 1/2.  What is a half – a half child?  At Pegeen.com we like to treat our plus size girls with respect.

For PLUS SIZES we will send a Bodice in the mail which is made out of a muslin material. You will try on this pattern/muslin and get back to us with any further fit issues. Be sure to have a digital camera ready when it arrives. After the fit is finalized, we use our copy of the same muslin here and proceed to make your dress. “My staff and I are really good at spotting the problems. Once the digital pictures are sent back to us experience and a little programming magic, produces the changes that need to be made to the pattern. I really scare my kids sometimes when talking on the phone to customers. After they give me the measurements and height, I usually guess their weight within a pound or two. It amazes my kids but reassures the customer that we know what we are doing! I was especially happy when a recent customer said to me ‘ITS LIKE MAGIC IN A BOX’ and that pretty much says it right there.”

Can a dress be used for a wedding AND a communion?

January 19th, 2010 by Jimf | No Comments | Filed in Communion Dresses, White Weddings
White & Ivory First Communion Dress
Thought this was a good place to answer the many questions we get from Brides and Moms, so here is the question for today:
“Hi Pegeen,
I found your website, Pegeen.com, today and am very interested in some of your styles.
I did have one question.  Both of my flower girls are going to be celebrating their communion in May and want to use the dress as both a communion dress and as a flower girl dress.  We will most likely do something to spice up the communion dress for the wedding such as tie a sash the color of the bridesmaid dresses around their waists.
That being said, both moms of the flower girls are actually leaning toward white dresses for the communion and my wedding dress is ivory.  Do you think the dresses will clash?  Do you think this will look funny or is this something that is done?  I want to be accommodating but I also want to make sure the bridal party looks cohesive and stylish.
Can you advise at your convenience?”
Dear Christina,
A good question today indeed!  At Pegeen, we like very much to answer your questions by putting ourselves in your mom’s shoes.  As a mother of two children myself, I find that my thoughts are constantly thinking about lessons, private school tuition and college funds.  So I can relate to your mom’s who are having a First Communion requiring a pretty dress.  Traditionally, most communion dresses are white.  I say that because we all get the same speech from our churches who espouse that any color is fine but no one listens….we want to wear white.  Traditions are changing in the church so a pale color is okay but it’s obvious your moms are pretty firm in what they want.  So here are a few suggestions to help your mothers decide on a style.
Let’s say they want to break from tradition first and wear a soft ivory color.  Pegeen has a pale color of ivory called NEW IVORY that may be okay for them to wear on their communion day.  All of our styles come in New Ivory and there are plenty of styles to choose from.  Each dress comes with or without a sleeve so they can choose any that fit their liking.  We have a special page that highlights some of the choices other moms have done including dresses for plus size.
But chances are they are insisting on white so here are some of my solutions for white AND ivory dresses to help you both:

Choose a white dress like Dress Style 300 that you can change the sash out. It’s pretty basic but a good style and an inexpensive approach for both events.

Choose a style with a large sash, something like dress #395, again in white but do a large ivory sash so that there is a balance for the two colors.  (Southern Dresses often are ivory and white and I actually like the look very much).  Again, a second sash can be made to switch the sash to white.
Choose a style with white aloncon lace and make the dress in white silk or, do the dress the other way around.
Choose a white dress but add an ivory bolero jacket.  This again may help balance the two needs together.
My last suggestion is to go the southern, traditional route:  White silk with Ivory Val Lace. This look is extremely beautiful and will look as if the intention is perfect for both.
Please feel free to have the moms call me and we will be happy to discuss any other dual uses for their dress choices.  877-4-PEGEEN

Is Green really the new Black? Popular colors for flower girl dresses

January 19th, 2010 by Pegeen.com | No Comments | Filed in Communion Dresses, Destination Weddings, Flower Girl Dresses, Green Weddings

Get your Green On… I hear this more and more everyday.  If  Green is the new Black then bring on those

wedding colors.  If you subscribe to the misdirected GLOBAL WARMING craziness or not (NOT!) it sure has made the color Green more popular with wedding colors.  A recent survey of 450 brides who have visited our Pegeen.com site and requested free swatches have shown that of those, GREEN WEDDINGS almost out-requests BLACK.  Now, this is by no means a scientific study but a year from now, I promise you, I will definitely publish those color request statistics.

Flower girl dress/ Wedding of the Month January 2010

January 5th, 2010 by Pegeen.com | No Comments | Filed in Aqua/Tiffany Weddings, Flower Girl Dresses, Wedding Planning

Each month at Pegeen.com, we receive photos from our brides or moms after an event has occurred.  For me, it’s like opening presents.  I never know what is going to be inside, but sure I am going to like it.  About 3 years ago, after it became more convenient for brides to send digital pictures, the flood gates opened and we receive hundreds each month.  Usually accompanied by a lovely note, our brides began to show me some of their good ideas.  Once that happened, I would send a nice note back and let them know that I enjoyed their pictures.  One bride said, I don’t mind if you share my photos on your website.  Well duh! Thus we started the Weddings of the Month.

What a great way to share ideas of what other brides have done, while highlighting of course, their little munchkins in their Pegeen attire!  Then, about 2 years ago, I will never forget, a bride in TN sent me the most incredible DVD filled with gorgeous photography from Eric McCarty www.thelightphotography.com.   One particular photo showed the absolute exhaustion by a little two year old that stole my heart!  That was all I needed to create our very first “Pegeen Flower Girl Dress/Wedding of the Year“.  It was followed a year later by a fabulous wedding we loved because of the details in pink, especially the flowers! (Planner FabulousFete.com and Ceremony Photographers Mike and ReJana Krause www.bludoorstudios.com and Portraits & Wedding Details Photography www.annesilvermanphotography.com.    In a VERY short few weeks, Pegeen will announce their 2009-2010 Wedding of the Year.

Flower girl’s flower ball

January 4th, 2010 by Pegeen.com | No Comments | Filed in Communion Dresses, Dry Cleaning your Garments, Flower Girl Dresses, Green Weddings, Wedding TIPS

I am totally enamored with these wonderful “Flower Kissing Balls”,  because they are so easy for a flower girl to carry.  Pegeen's Green and Hot Pink Flower Girls Kissing Ball

Another name, a Pomander, is a round ball of fresh flowers and has the easy handle made from a soft ribbon. These pomanders, which are fashioned after mistletoe hanging during the Christmas festivities, they have been named Flower Kissing Balls which is a throwback to the mistletoe kiss given.

The flower girl dress by Pegeen®  was in apple green and shock pink and is style 383.

Although I am seeing more and more of these Kissing Balls in multi colors I also have been loving the monochromatic tones of same color and hue roses.

Your florist is a great resource for the flowers that are typically used although I see them mostly made of roses.
