“It’s not a coronation, its a wedding.” Advice when buying flower girl dresses

January 25th, 2010 by Pegeen.com | No Comments | Filed in Infant dresses, Misc., Wedding TIPS

My favorite quote is on the wall, getting more soiled with each passing year.  Sometimes I use this quote for the mothers of our flower girl’s or mothers of the brides or sometimes to the bride herself. “It’s not a coronation, its a wedding.”

Think of it.
Its your wedding and the flower girl’s mom is taking over your wedding.  OR
The bride (also known as your sister in-law to be) is out of control.       OR
Your mother has gone ga-ga over the plans and you are about to lose it.

Repeat the following message:
“It’s not a coronation, its a wedding.”  And, if you don’t see the humor in that statement, call me.

Just friendly advice from a flower girl dress designer.

One of my FAVORITE times a year are when we start shipping all those dresses for “the party scene” in the Nutcracker.  For more Nutcracker Dress Party Scene ideas, visit this page.
Here is one of the latest today we just shipped out.

Made of Claret Red silk and red tulle, we used a Pure Gold silk sash and crinoline for this dress. Many of our flower girl dresses can be adapted for The Nutcracker performances. Although this is the tail end of the season, call Pegeen.com and we can still get you one in time for dress.

“Being a former dancer myself, I know how much that first Nutcracker performance means to a little girl or young lady. I think the only thing I had wished for MORE than playing the part of Clara was to have red satin toe shoes! I got both!”, Pegeen’s head designer and founder, Marg Hyland said in a recent interview on TV.

We are taking a break from flower girl dresses today and saluting a young man we are really proud of. He founded www.thesocialpledge.com – a place where you can say to your friends to “clean-up or sign-out” without embarassment.   Two news features were carried about him this week in Orlando.  Visit their website!

I just named my first Pegeen Model of the Month, a sweet little girl who won a MAJOR title in the pageant world.  I was thrilled to help our Pegeen customer when she called about 6 weeks ago – “could I please make a dress for her daughter who was going to need a new dress for a pageant the following week?”  I thought she was so cut that we have asked her to do a shoot for us to be included in our front page of our Pegeen website!
In under 15 minutes, she and I were able to come up with what she felt would be perfect for her daughter’s entry. Imagine my joy when she wrote this week to say that her daughter got top awards in the National Pageant.  Now, this week, one of her friends called to ask for HER dress and this time gave us 4 days to send it out to her!  Will post soon!

June is for Brides and their Daddy’s

May 31st, 2009 by Pegeen.com | No Comments | Filed in Misc.

Today, I am putting up the final touches on our Wedding of the Month.  It is going to be a very special one with a bride who is celebrating not only her Christian faith and service but a special moment with her father.  So, it brought to me tears when I saw her Dad greet her for the first time as she was getting ready for her wedding.

My Dad

My Dad

These photos are going to be highlighted as you will soon see in our June wedding of the month.  But, before I do that, I want to pay tribute to my dad who is the best.  We so frequently in our family say “I love you” to each other when ever we speak on the phone, but Dad, I really mean it from the bottom of my heart. It’s May Day! Thank your teachers.

May 1st, 2009 by Pegeen.com | No Comments | Filed in Misc.

When I was a little girl in Collingswood NJ, my father had me visit his old teacher, Ms. Tobin, who lived down the street from my beloved childhood home on May 1st.  He taught us that May Day was a day to celebrate flowers and love and thanking someone special, and especially teachers, in your life.

We would go into my father’s garden gathering up Delphinium, Peony and Violets and make a Construction Paper cone.  We would fill the cone to the brim and run to Ms. Tobin’s down the street, ring the door bell and run fast away.  It always made me feel so giggly and of course, I passed on this tradition to my children.  So, today, with one son away in a trip to the Carolinas and another strapping football player going to practice I have the task of getting flowers for their teachers today (in the ball player’s case – the coaches wife) so that they too can remember their teachers in our family tradition.

My father also made me MAD for gardening.  I was lucky to have purchased a rambling old Tudor Home in NJ (more…)
