I loved this little flower girl !

September 26th, 2011 by Pegeen.com | No Comments | Filed in Blue Weddings, Brown Weddings, Flower Girl Dresses, Wedding TIPS

Nothing is cuter than beautiful children in a wedding.  They really make for special moments in your wedding.  HOWEVER, sometimes the child is scared to death to walk down the aisle.  Even if you have dress rehearsal the day before, nothing is as petrifying as seeing the church filled with what appears to be hundreds of thousands of people to a little child.  How do you get around, what my children call, Stranger Danger?  (Wasn’t this little girl absolutely gorgeous?)

Little Flower Girl - a little terrified of the long walk down the aisle

As a mom, I now know lots of tricks to get my children around moments like this. As a bride, I was a complete failure. My now grown-up niece was a real snark that day. I remember telling her the night before the wedding,  that at the end of the aisle, up at the front pew, there would be a very special bag for her filled with her favorite toys and a few surprises the next day. So what did Joanie do?  The next day, as she was about to go down the aisle, she told me, in no uncertain 4-year-old terms, would she go down the aisle unless I brought her that bag from the front pew.  OH WELL.  She lost, and her dad took her promptly home half way through the ceremony.  Children WILL do the craziest things and your best chances for a great day, is smile a lot and just go with it OR she won’t be the only one having a tantrum.  Thank you to DanDalstra.com, the wonderful photographer who’s work will be featured this month as the Flower Girl Dress of the Month is unveiled…. albeit a little late this month.

Pink and Green Flower girl dress of the month for February

February 3rd, 2011 by Pegeen.com | No Comments | Filed in Flower Girl Dresses, Green Weddings, Pink Weddings, Wedding Planning

What could be better than a flower girl dress in Pink (and Green) for Valentine’s Day!  Our wedding of the month this year was themed “Meet Me (us) in St. Louis”  (how I loved that movie with Judy Garland).  The two little flower girls wore dress in Grass Green, Raspberry Pink and Antique White silk with beautiful magenta silk roses on the back bustle.

The setting was photographed by Kelly Clark Photography and the venue was the St. Louis Science Center Planetarium.  The wedding coordinator (Lacy Branch Events) had done a lovely job of executing all of Sarah’s and Colin wishes for their wedding, including the Gambling Themed evening.  (Fabulously designed by Parties & Props and  Aires Company.)

Each month,  Pegeen.com gets to highlight a wedding that has recently occurred.  It is difficult to sometimes choose, as each wedding is so different, yet so lovely.

But no sooner had I opened the email from Kathryn and saw the first photograph, I knew I had found my winner!

Last year, I divulged a little bit from the normal blog and wrote about my family’s tradition, passed down from my father, to show your favorite teacher appreciation and love by giving her flowers.  My boy’s would go through our extensive gardens, choosing their favorite flowers and cutting their prizes off, wrapping them in wet paper towels and tin foil and bring to their teachers.

Today was no different for my “almost in college” son who went off to take his last SAT, determined to get a higher score and hopefully the next notch for 100% Bright Futures.  Well, my big lug ran back to the car and said “Mommy, we have to bring my favorite person some gardenias from that massive hedge out front.”   We cut off some branches and wrapped it in tin and gave it to the most wonderful of wonders at Billy’s school,  the school attendance Mrs. Johnson.  To all those teachers out there, my sons will forever cut those flowers for you, and for me, my eternal gratitude.

A very exciting call for our flower girl dresses….

April 14th, 2010 by Pegeen.com | No Comments | Filed in Pink Weddings, Tulle dresses, Wedding Planning

I got a call from a bride’s mom who is planning a wedding in California.  They had been looking at Pegeen.com for quite some time and were ready to place their order for “the dress” which is to also be her granddaughter’s flower girl dress.

I was very excited to learn that David Tutera is their wedding planner.  I love this planners work and am so very happy that finally, he’s going to see my work too!

This is similar to the dress we will be doing for their wedding.

A bride called me today.   She loves our Pegeen flower girl dress style 398.   Her husband is in the Navy Seals and they are finally going to have their wedding while he is on leave.  God Bless soldiers.  We are proud of them, and every time a military bride calls, I tear up.  That’s not the point of the story but I just had to repeat our pride (we do give military discounts too)!

Well, anyhow, she wanted to put ivory (her gown) with white (his military dress).  We were able to get a great idea for their flower girl dresses for their wedding:

How can I say NO to my family? A story about keeping the wedding your own.

February 1st, 2010 by Pegeen.com | No Comments | Filed in Ivory or Gold Weddings, Wedding Planning

I got an interesting call from a bride in a large family.  She and I conspired to make three flower girl dresses in Gold and Ivory silk with a beautiful flower, similar to the dress we designed for another summer wedding.

Today she called us saying she needed to purchase 2 more dresses for her cousins.  She sounded a bit disturbed that she had to do it, so natch, curiosity took over and I had to ask, “why are you unhappy about adding these two girls?”  After a LONG discussion and chuckle about our families apparent interference in our weddings at times, I told her that now was the time to take the stance!  She was, like me, the youngest of 5 children (I’m 5 out of 6) and I had similar problems when I was married to a smaller degree than her plight.

How can you REINFORCE the phrase “this is my wedding” without coming off as a Bridezilla and keeping the family peace?  (more…)
