Post WWll Brides – reflections on my mother’s wedding day

April 1st, 2009 by Pegeen.com | Filed under Ivory or Gold Weddings, Tulle dresses.

Wedding themes from today’s brides are so much more sophisticated than our grandmother’s and our mother’s day.  I looked back over photographs from my mothers wedding after her funeral early in the month.  It was Post War when wars had capital letters and brides were anxious to marry their beaus after many years of correspondence of their soldiers who were fighting in far away places like Okinawa or Dunkerque.  Weddings were planned over weekends and themes were non existent.

But, curiosity got me looking over her photos from her wedding and I started to dig a bit deeper in the photo vault of other relatives and then discovered a common thread among the pictures.  Multiple colors.  My mother’s bridesmaids had on tulle dresses (did I mention that was also common during and after the war) in several different colors.  I never asked her but imagine she bought them at Macy’s or Gimbel’s in colors of ice cream.  So, here is my take on something that I could imagine could be worn back in the late 1940’s or early 50’s by flower girls.
