I also want to point out that its not brain surgery either… when you measure, get the proper tape measure first.  We tell customers they can easily purchase a tape measure (cloth or plastic – no metal) from either a Sewing Store or even a grocery store (usually found in the aisle where they sell light bulbs).  Anyhow, get the tape measure, place it on bare skin and for us, we require a chest measurement and a waist measurement and a standing height (try a pencil on top of the head and then have the child step away and measure to the floor.)  What we really are doing is measuring a child’s height to determine the correct size from a height stand point.   The chest and the waist determines their girth and from there, (my kids tease me that I could accurately guess weight at a carnival),  we can tell the child’s proper size.  Whether a child is thin or heavy, we get to perform our magic!
