What’s the proper length for my flower girl dress for a beach wedding?

Even though it’s practically the end of summer, destination weddings are more popular than ever,  so it wasn’t a surprise when a customer asked me today – “What’s the proper length for my flower girl’s dress on the beach?”  It really is common sense – the dresses shouldn’t touch the ground so we recommend ballet length, just a few inches above the ankle.  This is our standard length.

A beach wedding look with flower petals on the flower girl dress skirt – we can also add shells we collect from the Florida Beaches on request

So, thinking back on the activities of little girls on the beach, regardless of the occasion, these beach weddings came to mind.

We had to laugh about this flower girl (below) –  can you imagine how much fun this likely was for the little girls?  Until her mom saw her, we are sure

Don’t go in, don’t go in, don’t go…..oops! The Jersey Shore was just too irresistible for this little flower girl.

This beach wedding was a perfect time for these flower girls to explore. The shorter length kept them out of trouble but they still picked up their custom silk dresses in key lime and emerald green.

We thought the photographer captured the giddiness of each of these tiny girls, walking on the beach in their clothes instead of bathing suits!

but things got worse for the little one…

Flower girl dress at the beach

What to do at a beach wedding…. this little flower girl decided to take her mothers advice and not jump in!

Although not an ocean, my son was married in Denver but had his reception at a beach on my bucket list – Lake Tahoe. The flower girl wore our flower girl dress from The Fairytale Collection “The Opal Fairy”.

But speaking of lengths to wear here are some of our favorite flower girl dresses worn at the beach!

Mango orange and sorbet pink for these flower girl dresses, above

We loved this beach wedding at the Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort in hot island colors of boing (hot pink) and mango orange and this blended family had the men/boys wear coordinated colors.

Still one of our very favorites, these triplets shared the same tulle and silk flower girl dress style yet each had different combinations of melons and oranges.

One of our favorite looks for flower girl dresses on the beach – notice how the lightweight organza picks up with the warm summer breeze.

The location for this wedding, in Asbury Park NJ, had some of the best shorts for a real fun wedding that tug at this designer’s memories of growing up.

This was a beautiful setting at the beach of Lake Tahoe and yes, although not the ocean, a real beach none the less. Flower girl dresses and boy’s vest in bubblegum pink and black.

This beach wedding showed our favorite color – a tiffany blue color called Pond with Summer Tan as the underlining color to the ivory organza. This flower girl dress is from The Classics Collection.

Top 10 Flower Girl Dresses for a Fall Wedding

At this time of the year, it is not unusual for us to get swatch requests for Fall Weddings, especially for the month of October which has become very popular for weddings. The weather in most parts of the country is still temperate and most weekends are augmented by the beautiful change in the leaves. So the options for flower girl dresses from Pegeen.com are, not surprisingly, endless. In addition to all the lovely fall silk colors that are popular, we are showing you some of the classic seasonal picks, particularly the rusts, browns, reds, oranges and greens.

Above we show you some of the SWATCHES representing some of our favorite fall colors of silk used in our dresses but you can see below that the inspiration for many of these flower girl dresses do depend on other choices the bride makes, like flowers, lines, color of the venue and so forth. For those who are ready to brave the cooler days, you can choose sleeveless but we often recommend at least short sleeves if not 3/4 sleeves. However, most bridesmaids dresses are sleeveless so we find that we make more tank style dresses for the fall. Feel free to call our staff for help in designing your flower girl dresses for fall weddings at 407-928-2377 or click chat on our website. We are open 7 days a week from 9pm to 11pm and ship worldwide.

How can I make children feel special in my wedding?

I often get many moms call me and tell me of their family dynamics – usually involving step-children.  Sometimes, they confess feeling a bit disjointed from the step-child to be or other times they just want their children to be involved in the wedding in a special way.  I suppose that is the hardest thing.  I personally can vouch for feelings that get hurt when planning weddings so you want to keep it as complication free as possible, but how to do that?

There is no one answer.  My opinion will always fall on including the child whenever possible.  I think they need to be involved as much as age-appropriateness dictate that they can be.  Don’t ask other people’s opinions – do what you feel is right for your new family! Then, if you have one, run it by your Wedding Planner for other suggestions.

Decorating the desert table is a great way to get families involved.

I have heard so many stories from many hundreds of brides.  Often the difficulties arise from the age spread of the flower girls and the junior bridesmaids. The flower girl dresses and the junior bridesmaid dresses need to complement each other. Girls who are not old enough to wear a junior dress will often complain that a little girl’s dress is not sophisticated enough for her, that it’s too “babyish”.  This situation can seem daunting to a bride who is dealing with a hundred issues in planning her wedding, which is why Pegeen prioritized it in planning its coordinated flower girl dress and junior bridesmaids dress lines.

These Jr Bridesmaids and blended siblings created their dress in our Pegeen Dress Dreamer

A couple of my brides have commented that even working with their step-pre-teenager-to-be on our Pegeen Dress Dreamer has had good results because they can design absolutely what THEY want instead.  Its not for me to say but just listen to them – they have ideas that should count as well.

Activities table for children at your wedding are also a good idea.

2018 Wedding and Flower Girl Dress of the Year

We’re Delighted to Announce the Winner of Our ANNUAL WEDDING & FLOWER GIRL DRESS OF THE YEAR!

We were honored this year to have received an avalanche of submissions for our annual Wedding of the Year contest. Each year it has been harder and harder to determine a winner. It seems that the photography gets better and better and that makes the job of choosing just one from among our very special brides a tough, but fun, task.

Everything about this wedding was simply gorgeous, from the fairy tale setting and the couple’s story to the exquisite flowers by Leonora Moss. Our bride chose two distinct styles but in shades of blue and gray silk. For the younger girl, she choose Style 702 from the Couture Collection

and for the 3 oldest Jr Bridesmaids she choose Style 356 from Pegeen Classics.

She complemented the flower girl dresses in Blue Ice and Platinum Silk by mixing and matching the colors of tulle. Multi colored tulle was used for smallest dress. We think the colors couldn’t have gone better with the setting.

We also chose an additional Platinum Wedding of the Year because it was just so beautiful we had to award it a place of honor. Be sure to read all about it in the LINK HERE

Totally in love with this Black and Blue Tulle flower girl dress

One of our truly special moms, who has bought a number of flower girl dresses for her daughter Esti, celebrated the Bar Mitzvah of their son David. Event was held at the Marine Park Jewish Community Center, Brooklyn. The dress was designed using style 402 where we added longer, 3/4 sleeves, black sequins for the bodice and black and sapphire petals added to the skirt.

Black and White Photography

From time to time our brides send us their black and white photography from their weddings but we are seldom as moved as we were by this wonderful work by Daniele Vertelli who is based out of Italy. There were 9 flower girl dresses all together and almost all of them were given matching American Dolls with our doll dresses to match.
